The story’s main character and protagonist. A bright-eyed butterfly, with black wings, emerges from his cocoon unbeknownst that he’s the last of his species. He meets two colorful missionary butterflies, who becomes his adopted parents, and flies off with them to “Butterfly Town” where he’s bullied by the colorful butterflies. Brian hates being different but quickly learns that the one thing he hates most about himself could save his life and his true love. He meets some colorful characters and falls for the Dean’s beautiful,spoiled daughter, Jennifer. Despite how she and the others treat him, he risk his life to protect them from a large red cardinal, making him a hero of the town, and an enemy of Hank.

Brian’s love interest. A beautiful, colorful butterfly who has transformed into a Diva after the loss of her mother. She has a sense of entitlement because her father is the Dean at her school, and she occasionally clashes with her maternal Grandmother.She thinks she’s too good

for Brian and tries to fight her feelings until a turn of events opens her eyes, and her heart.

Jennifer’s maternal grandmother. Seasoned,no-nonsense colorful butterfly who lives with her son-in-law and granddaughter.She believes her granddaughter has become spoiled and disrespectful and she disapproves of her current boyfriend.She also expresses her respect for Brian and encourages him to pursue her granddaughter.

Brian’s best friend. A chubby, blind bumblebee with a seeing-eye mouse. He has impeccable hearing, but he’s a little clumsy.He’s a loyal friend and has a great sense of humor. He’s independent and doesn’t have any insecurities about his disability. He was very instrumental in helping Brian to accept his fate.

Brian’s adopted mother. Works as a Missionary with her husband Doug.  She is kind and gentle but she’s carrying some baggage from her past which allows her to empathize with Brian. She loves her son to a fault, and will do anything to make her him happy.

A ruthless buffed red cardinal is the antagonist in the story. He loves to eat worms and butterflies.He lands in Butterfly Town,where Brian and his family lives, creating havoc for the colorful butterflies.  After Brian gains the courage to stand up to Hank, the vengeful cardinal is determined to make Brian his next meal.
